Rico's cartoons
Hmm, okay. Everyone's at it now, so here are my cartoons, drawn in a frenzy one day in December 2002, before I gave it all up in order to go to the pub. My style is crude, the jokes are weak. But still, I'm proud of them as a first effort!
- Gosh I had no idea! What's the technique here? Is it a mix of hand drawn and computer generated like Wowbagger's?
- Just drawn on the computer in photoshop. I tried hand drawing the first one and scanning it in, then copying over it, but it was infinitely easier to do it direct.
- Amazing; I'd never have the patience. I love the way that Stalin looks like Cartman on the close up: can't help but hear Cartman's voice when Stalin talks.
- It's as quick as drawing on paper, only you draw on your computer instead. No trouble at all!
- A computer no trouble! Never heard of such a thing; it's the work of the devil I tell ye!
- Yes. We who employ the use of computers are in league with Satan and his minions (Hell makes a better Long Island Ice Tea than Heaven). Stirling stuff Rico! By what means do you draw so well on computer? If I try to draw using a mouse it looks like I'm suffering from a nervous twitch.~Wowbagger
- I used to do lots of freelance DTP work, and so a pen and tablet were my regular companions. Now I've downgraded to a Mac, however, and my PC tablet won't work on it, and I cannot afford an Apple-branded version, which are three times as much. Macs suck.
- Good Gad, even with pen and tablet I look like a DT freelancer. I need the frictive rub (of pencil on paper, generally, but I'm open to offers).
A Rickbot comments: this one amuses me since I wanted to draw the peasants emaciated and poor, but couldn't quite manage it so they came out big and round instead. Go figure.
The cryogenics one
A Rickbot comments: A wonderful demonstration of the failure to understand the vertical flow of strip cartoons. "Sorry Arabella, he's got measles," the mother says, prompting Arabella's apt response "Can Tommy come out to play?"
- It also sounds like Arabella has frozen Tommy, and is explaining to Tommy's mother why.
